A yacht proposal in 8 steps
- Pick the dateThe anniversary of the day you met, a birthday or an ordinary weekday evening. Weekday evenings are quieter and more affordable.
- Choose the timeSunset gives the most beautiful photos, while evening brings the bridge lights. To have both, set off at sunset and propose after dark.
- Find a cover storyA simple excuse such as "we're going out to dinner" or "it's a friend's birthday" is enough. Have a reason ready for dressing up, so nothing seems suspicious before you board.
- Choose the decorationsRose petals, candles, a bouquet and a "Will you marry me?" sign are the most popular choices. The decorations can be set up discreetly while you are at dinner.
- Pick the musicYour song can play through the sound system, or a violinist can appear on deck at just the right moment.
- Plan the ringYou can hand the ring to the captain or a crew member; there is no need to carry it in your pocket.
- Book a photographerA photographer shooting from a hidden spot captures the "yes" moment and everything after. The photos become a keepsake you will treasure for years.
- Plan the celebrationCake, sparkling wine and surprise guests. Your family can hide in the salon and come out on deck at the moment of "yes."
The best spots on the Bosphorus to propose
Under the Bosphorus Bridge (15 July Martyrs Bridge), in front of Ortaköy Mosque and off the Maiden's Tower are the most popular spots. At sunset, couples propose in front of the Maiden's Tower as the sun sinks behind the Historic Peninsula; at night, beneath the illuminated bridge. Our captain positions the yacht at the best angle for photos at that very moment.
Tips for keeping the surprise
- Handle all messages on WhatsApp, at a time when your partner won't be looking at your phone.
- Make sure card payment notifications don't show up on a shared account.
- If friends are in on the surprise, ask them to arrive at the yacht before your partner.
- Check the forecast a few days ahead; in bad weather the date can be changed free of charge.

Frequently asked questions

We recommend booking at least 1 week ahead for decorations, a photographer and music; for summer weekends, planning 2–3 weeks in advance is safer.
How long does a proposal on a yacht last?
The cruise usually lasts 2–3 hours; the proposal is typically planned after dinner, in front of a bridge or the Maiden's Tower.
Can we have fireworks?
For safety reasons, open flames and fireworks cannot be used without a permit. We are happy to go over lighting effects and other options with you.
